Poetry & Prose ~~ "Give Thanks"

Think about God’s wonderful gift of love,

Having sent Jesus, His only begotten Son.

Always rejoice with thanksgiving in your heart.

Never give up for He holds you safe in His arms.

Keep your eyes upon Jesus in the midst of the storm.

Stand strong in faith and give praise to our saving Lord.

Grant mercy and grace to others in their time of need.

Inspire others to reach out and be filled with His peace.

Value and treasure His gift of eternal life He freely gives.

Invite others to open their hearts to believe and receive.

Now and forever give God all the glory for all He has done.

Give thanks forevermore for His wonderful gift of love.

Sweet & Savory ~~ Spearmint Tea

There's nothing quite like a cup of hot tea on a snowy winter day!  It warms your body, soul, mind and spirit.

I grew the spearmint plant during the summer and fall months in one of my wooden backyard planters, trimming it before the first frost.

Secondly, I tied the bundle of leaves with a piece of string and suspended it from an old shower curtain until the leaves were completely dried.

I was in for a real surprise when I prepared my first cup of tea by placing a few of the dried leaves inside a tea strainer and poured hot water over the top. This yielded a far more intense flavor than making tea from the dried leaves inside a tea bag which I had purchased several months prior thereto.

This whole exercise has given me some great planting ideas for the spring of 2017.  What variety of tea should I try next?

Stay warm, and enjoy!

Poetry & Prose ~~ "Beverly"

Whose name means
        dweller at the beaver meadow,
Walked into my life thirty-three years ago
to say more than a mere hello.

Her sweet diligent spirit
        inside her five foot frame,
Keeps her working heartily
as for the Lord without blame.

Green eyes portray kindness
        along with a gracious hospitality.
When you sit at her dining table,
she treats you just like family.

Blessed to be a Christian from
        nine months in Lila’s womb,
Beverly remains rest assured
during these days of doom and gloom.

She’ll be the first to encourage you
to stay on the narrow road,
Leaning on your Lord and Savior
will help to lighten your load.

We never encounter anyone by chance
        as God ordains every meeting.
My life has been enriched for decades
by a blonde with a friendly greeting.

Our friendship was forged through
        laughter, prayer, and tears.
The Holy Spirit within us
        calmed all of our fears.

Thanks be unto God for His
        eternal gift of friends.
He has given us something
        that never really ends.

Poetry & Prose ~~ "Take Time"

Take time during each day
            to pause and reflect,
Give thanks for your blessings
            even if they aren’t perfect.

Take time to tell those you love
how much they mean to you.
There may come a day
when they are no longer in view.

Take time to pen a letter or note
just to say thanks or a mere hello.
You just might be the bright spot
that helps a life to glow.

Take time to perform
            a good deed or two,
Lessen someone else’s burden
so they won’t have to cry boo-hoo.

Take time to watch a sunset
            with its tapestry a flame,
Let it warm your heart and spirit
            and readjust your game.

Take time to plan your work
            and to work your plan,
This will save you hours and weeks
            down the road a span.

Take time to honor those in your life
even if they don’t deserve it now.
You will have shown them a better way
and then you can take a bow.

Take time for yourself above all else
to nurture your life and spirit.
For if you will do this
            then you will greatly benefit.

Poetry & Prose ~~ "Forever Friends"

Throughout your life
            people will come and go,
Some will be real
            while others are just show.

Be careful in whose heart
            you deposit your dreams,
For in a mere moment
they can be made into schemes.

There will be times
to keep things close to your vest,
Lest your supposed friends
            take from you your best.

Learn to get wisdom
and to walk with the wise,
Chances are then
that you’ll not be led to your demise.

Suddenly if you are blessed
            with an abundance of wealth,
Learn how to operate
            in a mode of stealth.

Fame, fortune or affluence
            seem to attract like files,
Those whose real motives
            are cheating and lies.

A lot of humanity
is not bent on evil or sin,
They’re trying to make this world
a better place if they can.

If you’ve been blessed
            with forever friends,
You have been given something
            that never ends.

Poetry & Prose - "Payroll"

The last time I checked
            I made a great discovery.
If you give it some thought
it may not be such a mystery.

Alas, the outcome was
            such a pleasant surprise,
I’ve been telling my friends
            just to get a rise.

My current non-existent,
            non-benefit payroll
            consists of the following
            alphabetized lineup:

            Anna the Administrator
            Audrey the Author
            Beatrice the Baker
            Bobbie the Bookkeeper
            Constance the Cook
            Hannah the Housekeeper
            Inez the Ironess
            Linda the Laundress
               Quaylene the QuickBooker
            Suzannah the Secretary
            Tonya the Taxi Driver
            Yvette theYard Worker

Each of the aforementioned
            is so efficient and kind,
If they stay on schedule
I’m never left in a bind.

Live your life on the lighter side
and write out your list today.
You’ll make some great progress
            even if it’s without pay!
