Answers in Faith ~~ "A Grandmother's Double Delight"

To my delight and unspeakable joy, I became a grandmother several years ago.  When the first was born, the miracle of birth, of two people becoming three, amazed me even more than when it happened to me.  As I held that tiny boy, my heart swelled with so much love that tears leaked out of my eyes.  It happened again when the second boy was born.

We live in another state from our grandsons, so our trips to see them are far between. I send cards, but preschool kids don’t appreciate them like they will when they learn to read. When we visit, I always take gifts for both boys so now they expect it. I usually take them books, but from the looks of their two full bookcases, it may be time to expand my selection of gifts.

Watching these boys grow up and learn new things is rejuvenating for me. Seeing the world through the eyes of a child makes me feel young, although it’s exhausting to keep up with them. They can play and run for hours, but I cannot. I do the best I can before resting and telling them to continue their play.

We spent two weeks helping our son with our two grandsons while our daughter-in-law was on an overseas business trip. During those two weeks, we played on the floor, read books, drew pictures, ran races, played outside, went to the park, went to stores, went to McDonalds, and in general, did everything they wanted to do. We even did a few things they didn’t want to do, like picking up toys and being quiet while their dad worked in his office. We ate together, watched TV together, played games together, and lived together for two weeks.

At the end of our time there, I was packing my bag when the oldest grandson came in to watch. “I’m going home tomorrow,” I told him.

He gave me a very puzzled look and said, “But I was just beginning to like you.”

I hope someday my grandsons will appreciate the time I spent with them. I hope they never forget me. I hope they pass on my songs and lessons I’ve tried to teach them. I hope they grow up into responsible, caring, Christian men. It’s my prayer.

II Timothy 1:5 “…when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is also in you.” I hope I’m like the grandmother Lois, and I will establish the faith of Christ in my grandsons so that they know it from childhood (II Tim. 3:15).

“But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children’s children, to such as keep His covenant, and to those who remember His commandments to do them” (Psalms 103:17-18 NKJV).

I want to thank my guest blogger and fellow author, Carol Kjar, for this uplifting and instructive writing.  My favorite line from the blog is when her grandson looked at her and said, "But I was just beginning to like you."  I'm confident that's a precious memory that will stay in the Kjar family for quite some time.

As Carol mentioned in her blog, long-distance grandparenting can be a challenge. The Lord will give us wisdom how to accomplish this in a memorable way as our legacies continue.

Carol C.S. Kjar, (pronounced "care") lives with her long-time first husband in their empty nest in Boise. She spent her life doing many different things. She’s been a stay-at-home mom, a teacher, a secretary, a statistician, a literacy tutor, a newsletter editor, a timber sale accountant, an archeological technician, and best and longest of all, a technical writer/editor.

After retiring, Carol focused on writing fiction. Her novels are sweet and wholesome, suspenseful with a touch of romance. She has also written children's, middle age books, and one non-fiction book about quilting. When not writing or traveling with her husband, she loves to quilt, sew, read, draw, paint, and read to her grandsons.

Here's Carol's contact information where you can read her blogs, take a look at the books she's published, etc.

Poetry & Prose ~~ 'Tis The Reason For The Season

In the hustle and bustle of the season,
have you stopped to consider the reason?

Why do we toil so everything will be first rate,
waiting until December 25th just to celebrate?

Is your heart stirred by the good food,
             tree or gifts,
The music, cards, and parties,
             or the opening of ski-lifts?

Do you long to meet with family and friends
that you all love so dearly,
To reminisce of times long ago
            that you still remember clearly?

Perhaps the passing of loved ones
makes you feel lonely and sad,
It’s hard to get through this time
because you’re just not very glad.

Millenniums ago, the prophet Isaiah foretold,
that the virgin would bear a son,
Born in Bethlehem, and called Immanuel,
His advent was a most humble one.

This baby boy, better known as Jesus,
came to die on the cross for our sin.
Until we repent and accept Him as Savior,
there’s no way we will ever win.

Is Jesus knocking on the door of your heart,
or have you already let Him in?
Are you wearing your robe of righteousness,
or are you still living in your sin?

So take a moment, amidst your frantic pace
to commune with the King of Kings.
For no one else can deliver joy and peace;
none other gives the life He brings!

Poetry & Prose ~~ "Give Thanks"

Think about God’s wonderful gift of love,

Having sent Jesus, His only begotten Son.

Always rejoice with thanksgiving in your heart.

Never give up for He holds you safe in His arms.

Keep your eyes upon Jesus in the midst of the storm.

Stand strong in faith and give praise to our saving Lord.

Grant mercy and grace to others in their time of need.

Inspire others to reach out and be filled with His peace.

Value and treasure His gift of eternal life He freely gives.

Invite others to open their hearts to believe and receive.

Now and forever give God all the glory for all He has done.

Give thanks forevermore for His wonderful gift of love.

Answers in Faith ~~ Implementing Your Love Language

Amidst the season of gift giving, is receiving gifts your love language?  Do you happen to know your love language?  It took me awhile to discover mine, and believe it or not, it was through adverse circumstances that I fully recognized it!

Here's a great website link for more information on this vital subject:

http://www.focusonthefamily.com/marriage/communication-and-conflict/learn-to-speak-your-spouses-love-language/understanding-the-five-love-languages

The following quote from the Focus on the Family article best describes my love language, i.e., Words of affirmation:

"One way to express love emotionally is to use words that build up.  Solomon, author of ancient Hebrew Wisdom Literature, wrote, 'The tongue has the power of life and death' (Proverbs 18:21, NIV).  Many couples have never learned the tremendous power of verbally affirming one another.

"Verbal compliments, or words of appreciation, are powerful communicators of love.  They are best expressed in simple, straightforward statements of affirmation, such as:

'You look sharp in that suit.'
'Do you every look incredible in that dress!  Wow!'
'I really like how you're always on time to pick me up at work.'
'You can always make me laugh.' "

As I previously mentioned, when someone hurled a cutting word my way, it bothered me greatly and diminished my creativity.  Conversely, as an example, when I would bake something special for my family, my husband would say, "Wow, that looks like it belongs in Sunset magazine!"  The compliments made me flourish and have remained as jewels in my heart.

Now you might comment, "Well, no one likes to be ridiculed or verbally attacked." Agreed, but when God has created us with our specific love language, assaults thereon deplete our reservoirs of creativity and the ability to function in our given language.

The five love languages are not solely for couples.  Since they are resident within each one of us, they are to be exercised and lavished upon our children, grandchildren, co-workers, neighbors, or whomever.

If you're unsure of your language, there are online quizzes that you can take to discover yours!

I decided to exercise my love language toward my youngest grand kiddos this year when specifically selecting the above words of affirmation for them.  I typed their first and middle names and using the first letter of each name, I blessed them with words that will still be inside their spirits as well as their picture frames for many years to come.

For those of you who have read my book titled Stirrings of The Spirit, you are very familiar with why these grandchildren are such special treasures since God miraculously spared their mother's life twenty-five years ago.

I hope you don't mind the extra-large picture in this post as I wanted to convey the full context of my message.

Plan to bless someone by discovering and implementing your love language. You're sure to make this world a better place if you do!

Poetry & Prose ~~ "Always The More"

As I reflect upon the countless blessings
That You have showered down on me,
I am thankful for each and every one of them,
Even for those blessings I cannot see.

For unconditional love that flows from Your heart,
For the breath of life You breathe into me,
For the gift of salvation and words of eternal life,
For the gift of grace and mercy in a time of need.

For the gift of forgiveness that is freely given,
For the unspeakable joy that floods my soul,
For the peace that calms the raging storm,
For the gift of healing that makes me whole.

For Your light that shines in the darkest of nights,
For the gift of faith and hope when all else fails.
For the song of deliverance when I am afraid,
For the freedom I have to worship You above all                             else.

For Your gift of redemption, my soul is redeemed.
For your Presence in my life that You are here.
For Your promise that You have overcome the world,
And Your words to us to be of good cheer.

For the gift of my family, loved ones and friends,
There are not enough words to adequately express,
For the many ways You have shown me Your love,
And that through them my life is truly blessed.

For You alone are the One I worship and praise,
You are the One I am living for.
For You, oh Lord, are a God Who is never-the-less,
For You are a God Who is always-the-more.

Poetry & Prose ~~ "Heaven's Delight"

Sounds and sights of Christmas are everywhere,
While an array of joyous songs fill the air.
There are decorated cookies and delicious candy canes,
As Christmas lights twinkle in frosted window panes.

Artfully wrapped presents under the Christmas tree,
Await Christmas morning for children filled with glee.
The aroma of Christmas dinner fills the air with the fixings to enjoy,
Our grateful hearts overflow with many reasons to rejoice.

Family, friends and loved ones all gather around,
Sharing smiles and laughter as love abounds.
Christmas carols and holy Nativity scenes,
Cause us to remember a Baby born, a Humble King.

Angels gave Glory to God, announcing the Savior’s birth,
And shepherds heard their joyful praises filling the earth.
Wise men searched for the King following Bethlehem’s Star,
Bearing gifts, bowing down in worship with all their hearts.

We may not know the exact day that our Savior was born,
But that does not diminish the truth that He is our Lord.
God's love for all of us was placed on display,
The Glory of God revealed to us on the first Christmas Day.

Heaven's Gift of Love came to dwell in our midst,
We open wide our hearts and receive His precious gift.
He fills our hearts with His presence, glory and light,
Emmanuel, God with us, Heaven’s delight.

Poetry & Prose ~~~ "Generations"

When my first generation began
           I have no clue,
Dwelling upon it now and then
            I certainly wish I knew.

Who married who
and how did they become acquainted?
Was it love at first sight
            or a romance quite belated?

Where did they live
and how did they get to the states?
Was it by air, land, or sea
            as they awaited their fates?

Were their life spans
            lengthy or short?
How many of their dreams
            did they have to abort?

Occupations, interests, and hobbies
            were probably quite varied.
If they were listed on a wall
            it probably couldn’t be carried.

God ultimately decided
in which clan to place me.
My children and I would become
            part of my family tree.
Since He makes no mistakes,
I’m exactly where I need to be.

Do you like the black and white bead work ensemble featured at the top of this blog post?  I certainly do!  It was handcrafted by my fellow author, Carol M. Green, who is also a spectacular social media coach.  Speaking of Carol, she designed my fabulous blog page.  In terms of giftings and talents working their way down through the generations, here's a glimpse of Carol's siblings and what they do in their spare time ~~

Kaye is a seamstress and painter.
Bonnie fashions fused glass necklaces, stained glass windows, and lamps.
Barbara crafts crafts.
Ted was a portrait photographer.
Claire is a seamstress.
Carol's daughter, Marie, is also a seamstress and makes the cutest bags.
Carol's granddaughter, Maggie, is an artist who has illustrated two children's books titled Gary Learns to Skate and Gary Learns to Fish both of which can be found on Amazon.
Carol's sister, Judy, makes gorgeous items from leather such as this handcrafted checkbook cover.

Are you a runner in real life?  Please check out Carol's blog page http://runninggrannygreen.blogspot.com/.  She also completes custom orders for her beadwork, designs websites, and writes books!

I would be remiss if I did not mention my youngest granddaughter, Ali, who has started authoring the first book in her children's mystery series titled The Cupcake Thief.  Imagine this if you will ~~ Ali sits to my left in my little office and dictates as I type on my keyboard!  She will be the fourth published author on both sides of my family.  It all started with my paternal great aunt, Dr. Effie Mona Mack, who wrote the state history for the Nevada public schools. Maternal aunt, Fern Hunt, penned beautiful poetry. Yours truly is just about ready to release her tenth book, and Miss Ali Faith is hot on the mystery trail. My oldest daughter, Cathie Richardson, is a freelance artist and graphic designer whose work is featured in such books as The Christmas Tin. This wonderfully illustrated book encourages young children to prepare a small gift for someone who is not expecting it in order to bless them.  It reinforces the timeless message of love is the greatest gift of all.  Cathie's designs are featured in Fine Art America  http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/cathie-richardson.html

As you look back in your family tree what do you see?  There just might be some very pleasant surprises waiting there for you!  Inheritances are not always bank accounts, buildings, businesses or land.  Sometimes they manifest in the most amazing ways.  So, prepare to be amazed!

Happy Reading & Creating!

The Idaho Creative Authors Network has had a blessed this year as far as being able to make contacts and encourage others in their writing journeys. There are so many people out there that want to write but don’t know what the next step is!  Our friend, Phyllis, did a great job making a board that says: We Have Answers! And yes we do!  We can help writers become authors and it is such a great feeling – for us AND them!  Well, our year is not over. We have a lot coming up in the next six months so get your pens and calendars out now to write these upcoming events down.

Along with the speakers, the ICAN team will be sharing writing tips which will spark your interest to ask questions to our panel at the end of evening. We will have a beautifully catered meal as well as an awards ceremony for our writing contest winners. The deadline to send in your contest submission is October 1st. Poetry & Prose Tuesday ~~ "Love Is"

"LOVE IS"

Love is like a flower
            that never fades away.
It blooms forth ever so brightly
and does not close at the end of day.

Love is like a fragrant aroma
            that lingers in the air.
Its scent grows even stronger
when matched up with a pair.

Love is like a delicious dessert
            piled high with whipping cream.
It covers over a multitude of sins
and helps you live your dream.

Love is that touch of a tender hand
            that signals you are special.
It’s quite often extended
just when your need is crucial.

Love is the song that plays
upon the tender strings of your heart.
Its melody is the shield
that will protect you from the fiery dart.

So reach out and
            See
            Smell
            Taste
            Touch
            And listen to love today!

You will be glad you did
and it will keep you from fading away.
